British Values at St Peter’s Church of England First School
At St Peter’s, we actively promote the fundamental British values of:
- Democracy
- The rule of law
- Individual liberty
- Mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs
These values are embedded throughout our curriculum, collective worship and daily school life, underpinned by our Christian vision of dignity, respect and community.
How we promote British Values
Democracy
Pupils learn that everyone has a voice and can influence decisions.
- School Council representatives are elected by pupils
- Children contribute ideas about school life
- Opportunities for discussion and decision-making are built into lessons
Rule of Law
Pupils understand the importance of rules and fairness.
- Clear school and class rules agreed with pupils
- Consistent behaviour expectations
- Teaching about responsibility and consequences
Individual Liberty
Pupils are encouraged to make safe and responsible choices.
- Opportunities to take on roles and responsibilities
- Encouragement of independence from EYFS onwards
- Teaching about rights and responsibilities through PSHE
Mutual Respect
Respect is central to our ethos.
- Positive relationships modelled by all adults

Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs

By the end of Year 4, our pupils:
