I know for some we don’t give enough and for others we give too much. It is a very controversial topic. Sorry, I can’t please you all but if you have any problems or queries, please don’t hesitate to come and talk to me.
There is an expectation that children read with an adult for approximately 20 minutes each day. In class we will be monitoring reading books and for children who have read to an adult every night, they will be put into a reading raffle. But it is not simply a question of listening to them read. As an adult, you need to be actively engaged in the reading process.
I will be sending home spellings homework every Tuesday. These spellings are based on the Government’s National Curriculum. If children work on a couple of words each night and use the active spellings to help develop long term memory, then practise all the words at the weekend, progress in spelling will be significantly increased. For some children, learning 10 new words each week would be an impossibility, therefore there will be a difference in the amount of words we would expect some children to learn. The spelling test will be on the following Monday. Below are the words for Autumn 1st Half
